aMiSTACX Stack Sunset Listing

Of the course of many years, certain deployment packages get retired. Sun-setting as they call it in AWS. Maybe a package was replaced by another stack, maybe we no longer find it economically feasible to provide a certain deployment stack. Maybe there is little interest in a stack series, or the stack is obsolete.

For whatever reason, it is very useful to have a reference point for an old deployment package. In certain situations, you may need to reach our to human support for help if you can’t restore a stack that was retired.

A retired stack can impact a future backup restore

For example, let’s say you make a backup of WordPress 5 running on an aMiSTACX G4 in the year 2020, for a project that you may resume at a future date. [Happens all the time.]

Someone at your org decides to cleanup old AWS subscriptions, and deletes the aMiSTACX subscription that belongs to your backup.

In 2023, you get a call to resume the project, and you attempt to restore, but you are greeted with an AWS error that you must be a subscriber to restore/launch the backup. Nice, right?

Then you go to AWS Marketplace, and find out that you can no longer subscribe to the stack, because it was retired. Now what?

Thankfully, should you ever see yourself in this situation, you can contact human support, and we will put in a request to AWS to temporarily allow the old stack to become limited public.

Note: As the date of this post in May 2023, the above scenario is possible; however, AWS may change their policy, and block old restorations. [There are workarounds, but more technically involved.]

Here is a list of aMiSTACX deployment packages that are no longer available.

Note! Keep in mind this has nothing to do with the frameworks, CMSs, and OSs deployed with our packages. Those are most likely still available from the author.
